George Mason University and Georgetown University jointly offer two programs designed for individuals who would like or need to augment their academic credentials to qualify for acceptance to medical, dental or other health related schools.
The post-baccalaureate Advanced Biomedical Sciences Certificate is a 9-month program that is particularly beneficial for those who have all of the prerequisite courses for medical or dental school (biology, chemistry, organic chemistry, physics, math), but otherwise may have a modest science background (non-science majors, for example), modest grades in sciences as undergraduates, and/or may also need to improve their Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) or Dental Admissions Test (DAT) scores.
The program includes preparation for professional examinations (MCAT, DAT) and outstanding advising and support towards students’ goals.
Applicants are expected to have a earned a bachelor’s degree from an accredited university, the desire to pursue a career in medicine or dentistry, and overall credentials suitable for acceptance to graduate programs in the College of Science at George Mason University and the Georgetown University Graduate School of Arts and Sciences. The program begins with the fall semester, and all classes are held at the state-of-the-art Prince William Campus.
The joint MS in Biomedical Sciences is a 34 credit 11 month program that is ideal for those seeking enhancement of their academic records prior to admission to medical school. This program requires submission of MCAT score of 27 or GRE score of 1200 in addition to all prerequisites specified for the Certificate Program. Both programs require submission of three letters of recommendation.
