Geography and Geoinformation Science

Building codes, which vary from state to state, are based on topography and climate, seismic and fault activity, and predicted population growth.

Now that GPS is available to help us find where we are and where we are going or to locate misplaced personal items like automobiles, pets, or even our children, what will be the next – perhaps life-saving – geoinformation technology to be integrated into daily life?

Through observation, quantification, and analysis of the Earth and its various phenomena, students in Mason’s interdisciplinary Department of Geography and Geoinformation Science will gain a better understanding of the physical Earth and its human dimension.
