Title: Water Resource Management Policy in Guatemala’s Rural Indigenous Context
Project Director: Dr. Thomas C. Wood
Committee: Dr. Thomas C. Wood, Dr. Jeremy M. Campbell, Dr. Esther C. Peters
ABSTRACT
Guatemala’s nearly four decade long civil war had torn apart socio-environmental structures, leaving water management situation under weak institutions and unstable governing bodies, where actors who are willing to work on water provision lack substantial capacity building and financing. Businesses, multinational corporations, governments, and communities can work together to bridge this gap and achieve a win-win situation. Our globalized society has to approach water challenges in a new multifaceted perspective and tackle water-related conflicts through Water Diplomacy, prioritizing a recently developed Integrated Water Resource Management (IWRM) Framework to aid in a more holistic and inclusive water resource management.
