The Farm Core Facility at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory is seeking a reliable and hardworking Farm Hand to support greenhouse and field operations for plant genetics research. This role involves hands-on work with plant care, maintenance of growing environments, and operation of equipment across multiple research locations.Position ResponsibilitiesAssist with greenhouse and field work, including mowing, irrigation, and general plant careSupport laboratory research by maintaining plants used in genetics studiesPerform greenhouse tasks such as filling pots, mixing soil, and wateringOperate power equipment including lawnmowers, weed whackers, and rototillersClean and maintain greenhouses and growing spaces (sweeping, mopping, etc.)Work safely around pesticides, disinfectants, and cleaning agentsTravel between field and greenhouse locations as neededParticipate in weekend and holiday work on a rotating schedulePosition RequirementsPhysical & Work Environment RequirementsAbility to lift up to 50 lbsComfortable bending, stretching, standing, and walking for extended periodsAbility to work with cleaning agents such as bleachWillingness to work outdoors in sun, heat, and inclement weatherRegular exposure to sunlight and varying environmental conditionsEducation:High School diploma or equivalentExperience:Some experience working with plants preferredHorticulture or plant care experience is a plus, but training will be provided.Skills & Requirements:Basic knowledge of plant care is desirableAbility to operate or learn to operate landscaping and agricultural equipmentValid driver’s license and personal vehicle preferred for travel between sitesStrong work ethic, reliability, and willingness to learnSupplemental InformationHow to Apply:If you are interested in plant science, agriculture, or hands-on research support we encourage you to apply!
