About
I am a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Center for Mathematics and Artificial Intelligence (CMAI), where I work on interdisciplinary problems at the intersection of mathematics, mechanics, and biology. I completed my PhD in Applied and Computational Mathematics at Simon Fraser University, following a Master's from the same institution and an undergraduate degree in Mathematical Civil Engineering from Universidad de Concepción, Chile.
Current Research
My research develops and analyzes numerical methods for nonlinear partial differential equations in continuum mechanics, with an emphasis on finite element discretizations for problems in elasticity, fluid flow, and skeletal muscle biomechanics. I work on mixed and augmented finite element formulations, stability analysis of nonlinear elastodynamic models of soft tissue, and optimization algorithms. A central focus is translating this analysis into simulation software: I lead the development of Flexodeal (https://github.com/sfu-nml/flexodeal), an open-source C++ finite element library for 3D musculoskeletal dynamics, coupling rigorous numerical analysis with physiologically grounded simulation of muscle mechanics.
