About
Until retiring in Dec 2022, served as the Science and Operations Officer (SOO) with the National Weather Service (NWS), Weather Forecast Office (WFO) in Sterling, Virginia. Was responsible for all training and professional development activities of the office’s team of staff forecasters. Oversaw all forecast and warning operations within the Sterling WFO and have over 25 years operational forecasting experience in the NWS.
Current Research
Incorporating probabilistic information to communicate risk in weather forecasts/hazards. Forecasting and anticipating winter weather (snow/ice), severe convective storms (including flash flooding and tornadoes), and marine conditions are my specialties.
Teaching Focus
Leverage my 30+ years of operational meteorological forecast/warning experience at the National Weather Service to help students develop a better understanding of atmospheric processes and weather prediction. Instructor for lab portion of AOES CLIM301-002 Weather Analysis and Prediction.

Former CLIM301 Lab student interns at FOX5-Washington DC
During a 2024 summer internship at TV station FOX5/DC, GMU meteorology student Hanna Tucker, who completed CLIM301-002 Lab, attributed the lab's required student-led weather briefings as great training for students in the atmospheric sciences major. Lab instructor Zubrick provided great insight for Tucker as she prepared to apply for internships.
