More from the COS interview with Walter McLeod

You founded Eco Capitol Companies. What was that process like for you?
Being an entrepreneur is not for everyone, but it has been the perfect career path for me. It has given me the freedom to indulge my professional passions – energy policy and innovation.

Are you currently involved in any career-related organizations?
Yes, I’m actively involved with the Solar Energy Industry Association and the Chemical Angels Network.

Professionally, what makes you most proud?
Seeing legislation that I wrote adopted by over 50 mayors and 28 governors, passed by unanimous consent in the 110th US Congress, and receiving a letter of recognition from POTUS.

As president of the COS alumni chapter, what are some of your daily tasks?
I always look for ways to promote the COS Mason brand in my spheres of influence – energy policy and innovation. I also benefit greatly from a very capable COS alumni chapter board of directors that work hard to make us the best chapter at Mason.

What tips do you have for current undergrad and graduate students?
Attending Mason is about more than getting a degree – equally important is the network you gain. Develop soft skills to enhance your scientific knowledge. Learn good business and money management habits.

What’s an interesting fact about you?
I love craft beers and wines (made in Virginia).
