CDS FACULTY RECOGNIZED FOR 2020 TEACHING DISTINCTION
The Stearns Center for Teaching and Learning is a hub for promoting teaching excellence and innovation. Housing the staff from Digital Learning and Teaching Excellence, the Center is a one-stop destination for all George Mason faculty and graduate students seeking to explore and test new ideas for teaching methods and techniques including online course delivery and integrated instructional design. The Stearns Center offers a range of learning and support opportunities for instructors across Mason’s campuses, whether you are just getting started or have years of experience.
This year the Stearns Center has recognized the following two Computational and Data Sciences instructors for their teaching extinction. They are receiving these awards since they were finalists for the Teaching Excellence Award.
2020 Teachers of Distinction Award Winner
Dr. Jason Kinser, Computational Data and Sciences Department Chair, has been recognized by George Mason University’s Stearns Center for Teaching and Learning for his exceptional teaching and his commitment to teaching-related activities.
To quote Dr. Kinser, “I was particularly impressed by what you learned in the ALT classrooms and how you shared that data, including controls with the broader educational community. It provides key insight into what students do differently in active learning environments vs. traditional classrooms.”
2020 Online Teachers of Distinction Award Winner
Dr. John Lyver, Computational and Data Sciences Adjunct, received the Online Teachers of Distinction Award. Dr. Lyver has been a champion of the Department for many years. He takes great pride in making sure his students are getting the best of the each of the courses he teaches which include CDS 130-Introduction of Computational Data Sciences and CDS 151 - Data Ethics in Information Society.
