Dr. Ingrid Visseren-Hamakers at the 2016 UN Biodiversity Conference

ESP associate professor Ingrid Visseren-Hamakers recently participated in two side events at the 2016 UN Biodiversity Conference held in Cancun, Mexico from December 5-17, 2016.

On December 12, she moderated the side event Lessons from the Paris Climate Agreement for the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD); Presented by PBL Netherlands Environment Assessment Agency (PBL) which reflected on the 2015 Paris Agreement on climate change and considered whether and to what extent it can provide lessons for the CBD process. The next day, on December 13, she participated in the side event Biodiversity Governance – Identifying Knowledge Gaps and Needed Research Activities; Presented by the Thompson Rivers University and the BENELEX project at the Strathclyde Centre for Environmental Law and Governance (SCELG), Strathclyde University which discussed transforming biodiversity governance for a post-2020 strategy for biodiversity in relation to the intersection of diverse legal systems, including on biodiversity, international human rights and indigenous governance.
