George Mason Postdoc Joins Le Moyne College as Assistant Professor

Rose Kaplan-Kelly served as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Department of Mathematical Sciences

Rose Kaplan-Kelly served as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Department of Mathematical Sciences at George Mason University from Fall 2023 through Spring 2025. She completed her PhD at Temple University under the guidance of David Futer and holds a bachelor's degree from Bryn Mawr College.

During her time at Mason, Dr. Kaplan-Kelly advanced her research in knot theory and hyperbolic 3-manifolds, working closely with Professor Sean Lawton. She published a paper on links with right-angled structures and submitted a co-authored paper with David Futer exploring the commensurability classes and arithmeticity of links in thickened surfaces.

Beyond her research, she taught courses including Foundations of Geometry and Linear Algebra and actively contributed to the Mason Experimental Geometry Lab (MEGL), where she mentored an undergraduate project titled “Hyperbolic Knots in Thickened Surfaces.” She also co-organized the Geometry: Metrics, Measures, and Algorithms seminar and engaged in professional development through the Stearns Center for Teaching and Learning and the Teaching and Learning Conversations seminar series.

This summer, Dr. Kaplan-Kelly will be joining Le Moyne College in Syracuse, NY, as a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Mathematics and Statistics. We congratulate her on this exciting next step.
