Calculus Olympiad 2025

On April 5, 2025, George Mason University’s Fairfax campus welcomed some of the brightest young minds in the DMV for the 3rd Annual Mason Calculus Olympiad. The event was hosted by Mason’s Department of Mathematical Sciences and the Center for Mathematics and Artificial Intelligence (CMAI).

Designed by Mason’s own Math Faculty, the competition challenged students with tough, thought-provoking problems meant to stretch their calculus skills and critical thinking abilities.

This year’s Olympiad brought together 150 students from 18 institutions, including:

  • 4 universities: George Mason University, George Washington University, University of Delaware, and University of Galway
  • 13 high schools: Chantilly High School, McLean High School, Lake Braddock Secondary School, Langley High School, Oakton High School, Panther Creek High School, Robinson Secondary School, Sharkya STEM School, South County High School, Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology, West Springfield High School, Green Hope High School, and Hayfield Secondary School
  • 1 STEM school: Sharkya STEM School

Students competed in both individual and team rounds, with awards recognizing achievements in two categories: one for those currently in Calculus 2 or below, and another for more advanced students.

A big congratulations goes out to all the students, teams, and mentors who participated in this year’s Olympiad. Their hard work and dedication made the event a memorable celebration of math, teamwork, and talent. This annual gathering not only promotes mathematical excellence but also strengthens the bonds within the academic community.

The 3rd Annual Mason Calculus Olympiad was not just a competition; it was a testament to the power of education and the bright future of mathematics. We look forward to witnessing even more incredible achievements in the years to come.
