Jennifer Sklarew featured as expert guest on Energy Month

ESP Assistant Professor Jennifer Sklarew is featured in an expert interview for the Alliance for Innovation and Infrastructure's (Aii) Energy Month series.

In her interview, ESP assistant professor of energy and sustainability Jennifer Sklarew highlighted the roles of awareness, finance, and community engagement in solving clean energy challenges. In describing these challenges, she explained the obstacles facing large hydropower infrastructure and power production. She noted climate change effects such as increased drought and flooding, as well as dam infrastructure complications. Sklarew suggested that smaller hydropower systems can support local communities' electricity access while mitigating flooding. She offered the ongoing hydropower micro turbine project she has been leading on Mason's Fairfax campus since 2017 as an example of a small hydropower project that can jointly address local communities' electricity and storm water management needs. Sklarew emphasized matching technologies to local communities' needs as a necessary foundation for garnering public support for clean energy.
