Mason will open new Potomac Science Center facility in Woodbridge

Announcement from Dr. R. Christian Jones:

In late May, the ESP department gains a valuable new facility on the Potomac River as Mason opens the Potomac Science Center on the tidal Occoquan River in Woodbridge.

The chief tenant is the Potomac Environmental Research and Education Center (PEREC), a unit of the Department of Environmental Science and Policy. This facility will provide 8 state of the art research lab suites to be occupied by professors from ESP, CHEM, and AOES. In addition, there are teaching labs and space for K-12 programs and public outreach.

I have scheduled the first classes there for fall 2017:

EVPP 550 Waterscape Ecology and Management (meeting on Monday late afternoon: 3:30-6:20 pm)

EVPP 555 Lab in Waterscape Ecology (meeting Thursday afternoons: 2:30-5:30 pm)

By enrolling in one of these classes, you can be in the first cohort of students to take a class at PSC/PEREC. The facility is located about 30 minutes south of the Fairfax campus and it will not be possible to take classes immediately before or after so I am planning to schedule the classes at nontraditional times.

In addition to being the pioneers at the new facility, we have one other benefit: Free Parking. Also, I have set the times so that you can get back to the Fairfax campus for evening classes beginning at 7:20pm on both Mondays and Thursdays.

For more information about the exciting programs at PEREC and a link to directions to the new facility, please visit: https://cos.gmu.edu/perec/.

Note: This post will be updated after the grand opening.

In the meantime, please contact me if you have any questions or suggestions.
