NSF Afternoon:  A Glimpse at NSF and How to Successfully Compete for Research Dollars

Modeled on “NSF Days,” this “NSF Afternoon” will provide basic insight and instruction on how to compete for NSF funding for science, engineering and education research. This half day workshop will provide background on the Foundation, its mission, priorities, and budget. We will give an overview on proposal writing, NSF’s merit review process, and programs that fall within our seven scientific and engineering directorates, as well as funding opportunities that cross disciplinary boundaries.

Register: http://nsfafternoon.eventbrite.com

The workshop will take place on Mason’s Fairfax campus in the HUB Ballroom on October 18, 2:30-5:00 PM.

The workshop is open to all Mason faculty, staff and students, but registration is required and the maximum number of participants is limited. College of Science faculty receive early-bird notice for the event, so RSVP ASAP! Registration will be announced to the university community via the University Newsletter on Monday, October 10. A limited number of tickets are available for your graduate and undergraduate students.

The workshop is co-hosted by the Department of Environmental Science and Policy and the College of Science, and is organized as part of the seminar course “Mastering the art of proposal and article writing” (EVPP 991-003), taught by Dr. Ingrid Visseren-Hamakers.
