Val Soltan Doctor Honoris Causa

On June 30, 2023, the Senate of the State University of Moldova awarded the title of Doctor Honoris Causa to Dr. Valeriu Soltan, professor of Mathematical Sciences at George Mason University.

The conferring of the title of Doctor Honoris Causa represents a gesture of recognition of the essential contribution of Dr. Soltan in the development of classical linear algebra and axiomatic convexity theory, obtaining scientific results of international resonance in computational geometry, and of performances in the fields of optimization methods and convex and discrete geometry.

In addition to these accomplishments, Dr. Soltan also serves in the role of ambassador of general mathematics and mathematical education, in Romanian and Moldovan mathematics, specifically. His continuous efforts to increase awareness in modern society of the role of mathematics and science, represents a successful model, worth the following of young mathematical talents.

Prof. Valeriu Soltan earned a degree of Doctor Habilitus in Mathematics in 1985, with a subject of convex analysis. In 1978-1995 he taught various courses on analysis and geometry at the State University of Moldova. He has published over 150 scientific works, including 3 monographs.
