Speaker: Dr. Janne-Tuomas Seppänen, Director and Founder, Peerage of Science

Title: Fixing peer review: how peerageofscience.org changes scientific publishing

Abstract:
Publishing research was faster in Darwin’s time than it is for us today. Peer review has become a time-consuming yet haphazard process, where judgement of scientific output is sometimes insightful, but too often just a few hastily scribbled and unjustified lines. Peerage of Science is a new kind of submission and peer review platform and a community, built by scientists, to make publishing easier and peer review better. It is free for scientists, paid by participating publishers, and currently features over 3000 journal destinations. In this talk, one of the co-founders of Peerage of Science, Janne-Tuomas Seppänen, describes how this changes peer review, and how you can benefit from it as a scientist.

Bio:
Janne-Tuomas Seppänen is the managing director and co-founder of Peerage of Science. Janne is also an active scientist with a PhD in Ecology, and his research focuses on information use in animals, particularly between species. Janne lives in Jyväskylä, Finland.
