Yuan and Swartz Successfully Defend Computational Social Science Doctoral Dissertations

Congratulations to Melanie Swartz and Xiaoyi Yuan who successfully defended their doctoral dissertations and will confer their Computational Social Science PhD degrees on August 22, 2020. 

Melanie’s dissertation entitled “Exploring symbolic representations of identity and collective behavior in social media: emoji use in Twitter” was reviewed and approved by her committee members consisting of Drs. Andrew Crooks, Chair; William G. Kennedy; Dieter Pfoser, and Anthony Stefanidis.

Xiaoyi’s dissertation committee consisted of Drs. Andrew Crooks, Chair; William G. Kennedy; Arie Croitoru, and Andreas Züfle.  Her dissertation “Geo-Textual Data Analytics: Exploring Places and Their Connections” was reviewed and approved by her committee.
