About
Ferah Munshi is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at George Mason University. She earned her undergraduate degree at the University of California, Berkeley and her PhD from the University of Washington. Munshi is also a PI in the N-Body Shop and a faculty advisor for Spectrum.
Current Research
Munshi's work focuses on utilizing hydrodynamic simulations to study galaxy formation- in particular, the formation and evolution of the smallest and dimmest galaxies- in an effort to constrain the nature of dark matter. Because they are so small, dim and dominated in mass by dark matter, these galaxies are thought to be pristine laboratories for understanding dark matter through astrophysics. Munshi's simulations are run on national supercomputing facilities, including NSF's Frontera, one of the world's fastest supercomputers.
