Position Title: Seasonal Interpretive Naturalist  Location: Hidden Pond Nature Center, 8511 Greeley Blvd, West Springfield Hours: Specifically looking for coverage Monday – Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.  Additional shifts to include weekends and evenings Summer hours: 20-40 hours per week Spring/Fall Hours: 10-20 hours per week; reduced hours in the winter depending on program demand  Salary: $15.00 - $17.00 per hour  Overview:  Share your passion for nature with the public as you conduct interpretive nature and outdoor field study programs for students and community members.  Become an expert on our local plants and wildlife. Refine your public speaking skills by teaching a variety of nature-based educational programs for all ages. Assist with the day-to-day operations to include animal care, grounds work, and custodial duties.  Duties:  Lead and assist educational programs for school groups, scouts, the public, camps, and other audiences. Work directly with the public, especially children attending summer camp. Tend campfires and facilitate programs for Campfire Fridays and birthday parties. Perform custodial duties in the office and Nature Center and grounds work on trails and garden beds.  Assist with the regular care and feeding of exhibit animals. All other duties as assigned.  Minimum Qualifications: Preferred education or currently studying Environmental Science, Parks and Recreation, or similar field.  Preferred experience in assisting programs and leading some aspects of programs.  Must be at least seventeen years old.  Applicants should have a basic knowledge of nature, some experience working with the public, communications skills, and the ability to follow oral and written directions in a team setting under direction of senior staff.  Must be able to work independently and with others.  To Apply: Send resume to Michelle.Alexander@fairfaxcount.gov  Necessary Special Requirements:   The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check to the satisfaction of the employer.    Note: This position may not exceed 900 hours per calendar year.
