                                     Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry                                                Student Laboratory AssistantsUndergraduate Chemistry/Biochemistry students are invited to apply for Chemistry Laboratory Assistantpositions in the undergraduate chemistry Prep Room. The initial appointment for the position is one semester,with the possibility of subsequent renewal. Student Laboratory Assistants from previous semesters, who areenrolled as full-time students at George Mason University, are also encouraged to re-apply.Job Description for Student Laboratory Assistants:• Provide students in the laboratories with glassware, chemicals and equipment.• Help prepare solutions and reagent chemicals used for the laboratory experiments.• Act as a safety backup for instructors in the laboratories.• Troubleshoot equipment and report malfunctions to the Prep Room Manager or Prep Room AssistantManager.• Prepare chemical waste for proper disposal.• Take inventory of chemicals and equipment.• Help maintain clean and tidy laboratories and Prep Room.Lab Assistants work under the supervision of the Prep Room Manager and the Prep Room Assistant Manager.Work shifts, which vary based on student academic schedules, are available as early as 7:30 AM and end as late as10:00 PM (Monday through Friday). Being available to work on both Fairfax and Sci Tech campuses is essential forthis position. Shifts will be assigned at either campus depending on the student's availability and class schedule.                                                  Qualifications:• Satisfactory progress toward a major or minor in Chemistry/Biochemistry.• Satisfactory completion of CHEM 211, 212, 213, 214, 313, 314, 315, 318 and 321 (or the equivalent).• Safety Training Course (to be completed after hire)• Sexual Harassment & Prevention Training Course (to be completed after hire)• Satisfactory performance in previous terms as a laboratory assistant.• Continued satisfactory progress in all coursework each semester.
