Rigorous Curriculum

Taught and administered by faculty from the Georgetown University Medical Center and George Mason University, this program provides challenging curriculum to complete full master’s degrees at Georgetown or George Mason.

Rachel Cheek, ABS Class of 2018

My name is Rachael Cheek, and I am a 2018 graduate of the Advanced Biomedical Sciences program. After ABS, I went on to complete the MS in Physiology & Biophysics at Georgetown University. I am now a second-year medical student at Meharry Medical College. I am interested in Neurology, and I am currently conducting Multiple Sclerosis research at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. I chose the GeorgeSquared program because I personally knew an alumnus who is now a psychiatry resident. The G2 program gave me a glimpse of what medical school course work would look like. The courses gave me a strong foundation in the basic sciences that I have been taught during my didactic years of med school. Additionally, I am still friends with many of my classmates from G2.

Briana Osei, ABS Class of 2020

I just finished my first year of medical school and I wanted to express how impactful, fundamental, and just overall great of a decision going to GeorgeSquared was for me. After completing this first year, I can confidently say that G2 absolutely prepared me for medical school (more than I even expected it to) and I wouldn’t have gotten Honors grades in my Blocks and felt so good throughout the year. Yes, medical is “hard” in a way because of the amount of information you need to know but the actual content was such a breeze (thankfully) and more of a refresher for me because of all the foundational information I learned very well in G2 through the support of the professors, faculty, and supfac’s. I just wanted to express that the program is really helpful and I literally wouldn’t have done so well during my first year had I not done the program. Thank you for the opportunity!

Increased MCAT scores

The GeorgeSquared program has an integrated preparatory course hosted by Kaplan to prepare students and improve their Medical College Admission Test, Dental Admission Test, or other pre-professional scores.

Jessica Andre, ABS Class of 2018

I chose GeorgeSquared because I wanted a program that not only prepared me for the rigor of medical school but also provided opportunities to develop outside of the classroom through community service and leadership. The G2 faculty personalized guidance for each student’s development and supported us through applications and preparation for entrance exams like the MCAT. I truly believe I was able to get into my top choice for medical school because I attended G2.

Improved study habits

Knowledgeable professors and support faculty provide personalized advising in addition to preparation for professional examinations and study strategies (MCAT, DAT, GRE).

James Castro, ABS Class of 2020

My name is James Castro and I was born to two hard-working Salvadoran parents in Key West, Florida. We eventually moved to Northern Virginia where I attended The College of William and Mary. There, I was involved in Army ROTC and earned a German major with the intention of applying to medical school when ready. Following graduation, I built on my application by working as a medical assistant and scribe at Otolaryngology Associates P.C for a year. I then applied to GeorgeSquared to improve upon my academic record prior to applying to medical schools. Once at GeorgeSquared, I really enjoyed going through all the coursework and improving my study skills. It brought me new confidence in my ability to perform well on exams and eventually medical school coursework. With the help of the program, I felt ready to move on to the next step. After thorough research and reflection on my goals, I applied early decision to George Washington's medical school. I spent much time preparing my primary and secondary application and eventually received an interview invitation. My efforts finally culminated with an acceptance this past September.

Elias Hilaire, ABS Class of 2020

My name is Eli I'm a second year Dental student at Boston University Goldman School of Dental Medicine. I completed the GeorgeSquared program in 2020. I decided to join the GeorgeSquared program because I needed a stronger background in the sciences before applying to dental school. My undergrad GPA was a 2.97 cumulative and my science GPA was around a 2.67, which not only were the grades not good enough to to apply to dental school, but I also just needed a better basic understanding of the sciences in order to help me be a better student. It allowed me to start developing that mindset that I needed to be successful in dental school: how to study, the type of people you like to study with, how to manage a rigorous course load and rigorous classes I think were the main things that I got out of GeorgeSquared. Aside from just gaining better study skills and improving my GPA, etc. It just allowed me to learn a lot more about the application process and meet people that I needed to meet in order to get some good advice about applying to dental school. Academic and professional support

Mason’s small, friendly Science and Technology campus and the GeorgeSquared cohort offers many student-initiated community service and professional development programs. There’s also a large alumni network to help connect you to opportunities.

Alex Khan, ABS Class of 2019

I chose GeorgeSquared because I knew I needed to improve my academics after struggling in undergrad. During undergrad I put way too many extracurriculars on my plate and, although helpful in exploring my path into medicine, it distracted from my studies and negatively impacted my academic performance. G2 offered a second chance for me to not only prove to medical schools, but to myself that I could handle a rigorous science curriculum. I chose G2 because I was able to learn from both amazing George Mason faculty, such as Dr. Couch who made me turn my enemy of biochemistry into a subject I really enjoy now, and Georgetown University School of Medicine faculty, such as Dr. Whitney. The ability to study at both schools, and G2 only being about a 45 min drive to Georgetown/ D.C. solidified my decision and desire to attend G2. Another factor in my decision was the opportunity to continue on and receive my MS in Physiology at Georgetown University (and am now forever a Hoya). I could not be more grateful for the opportunity and life long friends I made from G2! It helped me obtain my lifelong dream of becoming a physician and I am using the skills I learned from G2 and the MS program every day during my first year of medical school.

Nasreen Saroor, ABS Class of 2019

I started at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine in Fall 2020 and will graduate in 2024. I am also a Health Professions Scholarship Program recipient with the U.S. Army as a 2nd Lieutenant. My husband and I are both in the military and right now I am in Missouri at his duty station attending school remotely until the spring semester when I will be able to move to Boston. I attended the GeorgeSquared program from 2018 to 2019 where I went on to complete my Master's degree at Georgetown University. I loved every aspect of the program. It really helped set me up to do very well in dental school because of the program's rigorous curriculum . I found the support of the faculty in the G2 program to be the most memorable thing for me and the opportunity to be in the hybrid program really solidified the enthusiasm of the faculty to help us succeed by working with our learning needs. Most importantly, I developed great friendships that have lasted outside of the program. Thank you for giving me a second chance at pursuing my dreams of being a dentist.
