The Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry welcomes Dr. Jessica Callus as an Assistant Professor and Undergraduate Program Coordinator.
Dr. Callus' dissertation research focused on Chemistry Education. She developed, implemented, and assessed argumentation-based curriculum in a general chemistry non-majors course. The curriculum was designed using the Claim, Evidence, and Reasoning Framework to support students in the scientific practice of engaging in argument from evidence.
She has experience with education research design, curriculum development, and quantitative and qualitative research methodologies. Her experiences as a Chemistry Education Researcher and Outreach Coordinator have informed how she approaches teaching and educational programming.
Dr. Callus earned a B.S. in Chemistry from Central Michigan University (Mt. Pleasant MI) and a Ph.D. in Chemistry with a specialization in Chemistry Education from Purdue University (West Lafayette, IN).
