DEADLINE: Loudon County Public Schools-CoS-120 Dual-Enrollment STEM Research Symposium Participation
Apr 7, 2023, 8:00 AM - 12:00 PM
Announcement to College of Science faculty and graduate students
Faculty and postdoctoral fellows can contribute expertise while earning up to $400 funding by reviewing research project posters from Mason’s youngest dual-enrolled Patriots! Over 300 high school students from Loudon County Public Schools (LCPS) will present their academic year research findings to Mason faculty and graduate researchers. Connect with LCPS STEM teachers and build community connections. To participate, please provide necessary information no later than noon on Friday, April 7, 2023. If there is an overwhelming faculty response, we may select faculty based on research content areas that best support the project research areas or in order of sign-up via the qualtrics survey.
Session | Start-End |
A | 11:30 am – 12:20 pm |
B | 12:20 pm – 1:10 pm |
C | 1:10 pm – 2:00 pm |
D | 2:00 pm – 2:50 pm |
Any College of Science faculty member or postdoctoral researcher will receive $100 per session while participating during any/each 50-minute-long session, by providing in-person and completing short-written feedback to about 8-10 student presenters. Faculty may review during one, two, three or as many as all 4 sessions to earn a maximum of $400 for participating in all four sessions. We aim to have at least 8 faculty reviewers during each session.
Faculty may use the funding for any research or educational supplies (lab materials, books, software for example). Faculty must use the $100 -$400 funding no later than June 1, 2023. After the event, a list of reviewers and their sessions will be sent to CoS Grants and Finance Analyst, Jen Fraze. Jen will email the recipients with information about how to place their orders. Jen will share a OneDrive Spreadsheet with the participating faculty and will likely place orders weekly.
For this event, graduate students can gain important skills while earning $50/hr. as research discussion panelists during any or all 4 sessions above. Questions for the panelists will be provided well in advance of the event and 4-5 panelists are needed for each session. Payment will be in the form of a reimbursable scholarship-if there is no balance, the payment will be directly deposited into the graduate student’s account, or a check will be cut and mailed. To participate, please provide necessary informationno later than noon on Friday, April 7, 2023. If there is an overwhelming graduate student response we may select graduate students based on research content areas that best support the projects being presented or in order of sign-up via the qualtrics survey.
