Geometry MMA Seminar: Thurston’s fibered cone via random walks

Title: Thurston’s fibered cone via random walks

 

Abstract:   Every closed hyperbolic 3-manifold virtually fibers over the circle. The fibrations of a fibered hyperbolic 3-manifold are organized by Thurston’s fibered cones. In this talk, we discuss how random walks can be used to distinguish between different fibrations. We will also discuss a more general form of our results in the setting of mapping class groups and Teichmüller spaces. This is joint work with Andrew Zimmer.
