Mathematics Colloquium: Bezout’s polynomial identity
Nov 14, 2025, 3:30 - 4:30 PM
Speaker: Bill Ross, University of Richmond
Title: Bezout’s polynomial identity
Abstract: A classical theorem of E. Bezout says that if A and B are complex polynomials with no common zeros, then there are polynomials R and S such that A R + B S = 1. In this talk we measure the optimal size of the coefficients of R and S in terms of the coefficients of A and B. This improves an (implicit) estimate of J. J. Sylvester.
Time: Friday, November 14, 3:30pm – 4:30pm
Place: Exploratory Hall, room 4106 or Zoom
