Title: Isoperimetric Inequalities in Group Theory
Abstract: The notion of isoperimetric inequalities is well defined in group theory which allow us to define lengths of closed paths and areas that these paths enclose. Using these notions, authors such as Gersten and Gromov have given characterizations of interesting collections of finitely generated groups such as hyperbolic groups. In this talk, I will give a survey of the results about isoperimetric inequalities in finitely generated groups, how they can be used as a geometric invariant to study maps between groups that coarsely preserve their geometry and will discuss my contributions to this area of study. I will finish by introducing interesting questions in this line of study.
