Mar 26, 2022, 9:00 AM - 2:30 PM
Virtual
The third annual Virginia Environmental Justice Summit will be held virtually on Saturday, March 26th, 2022 and is open to all undergraduate and graduate students. The goal of the event will be to learn about environmental justice issues currently impacting communities, with a specific focus on resource extraction and environmental policy. Through this conference, attendees can build advocacy and activism skills, network with other environmental justice activists, and develop action plans for their communities. The full agenda and updated list of guest speakers will be available on our website in February: VirginiaEnvJustice.org.
At this Summit, attendees will:
- Learn basic definitions of environmental justice (EJ)
- Actively engage in discussions about Indigenous rights, resource extraction, and environmental policy with a specific focus on uplifting Indigenous communities and communities of color
- Make connections with systematic inequality and public health
- Gain skills for coalition building, lobbying, petitioning, letter writing, and other advocacy action items
- Meet other activists and learn about their unique experiences and perspectives within the EJ movement
