8th APEC Energy Efficiency Policy Workshop moderated by Younsung Kim
Professor of environmental science and policy Younsung Kim was invited to moderate the 8th Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Energy Efficiency Policy Workshop held in Tianjin, China, on November 5th, 2024. The workshop was entitled “Energy Management: Standards, Policies, and Best Practices,” because effective energy management is crucial for integrating proactive handling of an organization’s daily systems and procedures.
Relying on her expertise in Environmental Management Systems (EMSs) and climate and energy policy, professor Kim moderated the panels on best practices in energy management systems and energy audit policies in APEC economies. In particular, energy management systems in Thailand, Hong Kong, and Malaysia were presented extensively, providing valuable insights into how to mandate energy management systems in growing economies where energy efficiency improvements are essential for carbon reductions in power and building sectors.
Workshop participants comprised of government officials and practitioners who acknowledged that the workshop was informative and valuable, and they appreciated professor Kim’s moderation of bridging theories and practices of energy management systems.
