Teaching Excellence Awards 2025
Andre Clayborne, Associate Dean of Faculty Affairs, joins Associate Professors Greta Ann Herin and Frank Krueger at the 2025 Stearns Center Teaching Excellence Awards Ceremony.

Each year, the Stearns Center for Teaching and Learning honors faculty who exemplify the highest standards of teaching at George Mason University. The university Teaching Excellence Awards are Mason’s highest recognition for faculty members who demonstrate exceptional skill in and commitment to their teaching and learning practices.

This year, Associate Professor Greta Ann Herin received a Teaching Excellence Award for her outstanding contributions to neuroscience education. She teaches core and elective courses in the Interdisciplinary Program in Neuroscience and advises pre-health students. Her research focuses on glutamate receptors—molecules critical to brain function, learning, and memory. Through her engaging, research-informed teaching, Herin inspires students to explore the science behind neurological processes.

Frank Krueger, Associate Professor in the School of Systems Biology and Interdisciplinary Program in Neuroscience, was named an OTEA Teacher of Distinction. With a background in psychology, neuroscience, and physics, Krueger brings an interdisciplinary perspective to understanding social cognition and prosocial behavior. His classes draw on methods from neuroscience and experimental economics to explore how humans think, trust, and cooperate.
