From the Dean: It's a new day!

Dear Mason Science colleagues and students,

Curiosity. Excitement. Trepidation. Unease. Confidence. Overwhelm. Wonder. Pride.

When you woke up today, how did you feel about starting the fall 2021 semester at George Mason University?

Perhaps you even felt a mixture of all of these emotions, which is to be expected considering all that’s on our plates.

Whether you are faculty, staff or students, this semester, Mason’s College of Science is prepared to meet you wherever you are on the spectrum of emotions.

A huge thank you to our faculty and staff who have gotten us to this point and continue to be flexible and supportive. Thank you, students, for placing your faith in us to deliver a challenging academic and research experience; I am confident we will all rise to the occasion.

Yet I recognize this is not like any other semester. The COVID-19 Delta variant still impacts our day-to-day new normal. I encourage you to be respectful of and to follow Mason COVID protocols to protect each other. Yet, don’t let the current situation hold you back from self and scientific discovery.

I look forward to joining those on campus and will continue to offer ways to strengthen our Mason science community both face-to-face and virtually, like our annual ScienceConnect in September.

I can’t wait to see what we can accomplish, safely and together.
