Op-Ed on Climate Change

An op-ed on climate change by two Mason faculty recently appeared in the Richmond Times-Dispatch. It also ran in the Roanoke Times and Fredericksburg Free Lance-Star. The authors are Jim Kinter, an AOES professor and director of GMU’s Center for Ocean-Land-Atmosphere Studies, and Ed Maibach, director of the Mason Center for Climate Change Communication. The op-ed, “For a prosperous tomorrow, Virginia needs to make good decisions today,” advocates preparing to adapt to the impacts of climate change, which are already affecting Virginia, even as efforts build to decarbonize the economy to curb future global heating. As part of this preparation, the authors are working with colleagues on a pilot project for the Virginia Climate Center, a climate extension service to “help cities and towns in Northern Virginia increase their resilience to the impacts of climate change.”
