AOES Associate Professor Barry Klinger wrote an Op-Ed piece for the Richmond Times-Dispatch of Virginia: Save money, save Ukraine, save Earth.  The article points out that over the lifetime of an electric car, it could save its owner $20,000 in fuel costs at recent gas and electricity prices.  The car could also save about 50 tons in climate-altering carbon dioxide emissions.  Klinger’s web pages on Humans Heating the Earth include calculations for the article.

The Op-Ed concludes, “If you buy a gas-powered car, you might be paying extra for the privilege of altering the climate and supporting Russian oligarchs. Ongoing technological progress has changed saving the Earth from a cost to a financial benefit.”

George Mason University supports electric vehicle drivers by providing EV charge stations in several of its garages.  Drivers can charge their cars for free at the stations.
