The Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry welcomes Dr. Patrali Banerjee to the department. Dr. Patrali Banerjee will join us in August 2021 as a Term Assistant Professor of Organic Chemistry. Dr. Banerjee has provided instructional services to the department since 2020. She has prior teaching experience at Cal State University – East Bay (Hayward, CA), and in India. She taught General Chemistry lecture at GMU (Spring 2020), then organic chemistry lecture and lab courses during the 2020-2021 academic year

Dr. Banerjee also has a background in intellectual property.  She has almost 11 years of experience in managing Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) and innovation management, as well as 4 years of experience in market and technical intelligence.

Dr. Banerjee’s dissertation research project involved synthetic organic chemistry focusing on carbohydrate chemistry along with preliminary molecular biology and biochemistry techniques, with an intention to discover drugs for medicinal applications.

Dr. Banerjee earned a Ph.D. from the National Institute of Immunology (New Delhi, India; 2004); a M.S. in Chemistry from the Indian Institute of Technology (1999); and a B.S. in Chemistry from Hindu College, University of Delhi (1997).
