Chandran J. Shukla Fellowship
The Chandran J. Shukla Fellowship was established by Jagadish and Anne Shukla in memory of their son. The purpose of the Fellowship is to assist graduate students pursuing a degree in Climate Dynamics. The Shuklas, and a few other faculty members, have endowed the Fellowship with enough funds to support expenditures of up to a few thousand dollars a year.
The Fellowship may be used for a wide variety of uses. Some examples: it can help students attend scientific conferences and meetings, purchase books or computer hardware or software, or provide direct student support. It can help support group activities such as student Journal Clubs or Symposia.
For travel proposals, students must also submit a request for funding from the GMU Graduate Student Travel Fund (GSTF) and request funding from their advisor. Travel requests should be submitted using Climate Dynamics’ online Request for Travel Funds form. For other kinds of requests, proposal should include components analogous to the those in the travel form.
Students are encouraged to submit proposals for funding under the Fellowship. Proposals may be submitted by individual student or group of students in the Climate Dynamics program. Decisions on funding the proposals will be made by representatives of GMU based on the merit of the proposals and on the availability of funds. For best chances of funding, students should submit proposals by November 1 to Barry Klinger, via email.
Selection Process
Director of Climate Dynamics will decide on funding proposals based on advice from a committee which the Director appoints. Committee consists of Graduate Coordinator reponsible for the Climate Dynamics Program, and 1-2 other Climate Dynamics faculty.
