Interim President, Anne Holton and President-designate, Greg Washington release a brief yet powerful statement addressing the most recent events regarding racial injustice and the death of George Floyd.

So, no words without action. We are determined to keep George Mason University true to its motto, to be a place of “freedom and learning.” We will take whatever steps are necessary to ensure every member of Mason Nation, and every visitor to our campuses, is safe: physically safe, emotionally safe, culturally safe, and intellectually safe, to become who they want to be. - Anne Holton, Interim President & Greg Washington, President-designate

The College of Science Dean, Ali Andalibi, Gerald Weatherspoon and Lillian Virgil, Chief Diversity Officers for Faculty have also released a heartfelt and inclusive statement about the recent events taking place in our nation.

As members of the Family of Science, we have the duty not only to innovate, but also to ensure that everyone has equal access to opportunity in our place of work and learning.  We know that we are responsible and accountable for creating and maintaining a welcoming and inclusive culture. We shall continue to stand against divisiveness and will never allow ignorance, hate, and racism, to sully our home for learning, discovery, innovation, and impact.  We shall also strive to provide an environment that enables each member of the COS Family to live a balanced, productive and healthy life devoid of fear and oppression.  Regardless of race, creed, color, or sexual orientation, all members of the COS Family are welcome at the College and at George Mason University, and we intend to keep it that way.
