A desire for discovery
Research opportunities offered by the College of Science are accessible to students atvarious levels in their undergraduate academic career. Student may select to participate in research within their own major, or choose cross-disciplinary topics. Many of our science faculty collaborate with other departments at Mason. They are also well-connected in the Washington, D.C. area providing opportunities for students to network with such companies as NASA, National Institute of Health, United States Department of Agriculture, and the United States Environmental Protection Agency.

Tristan Moon said his experience in multidisciplinary communication and collaborating with others outside his own field of study was the cornerstone of his education at George Mason University.
Wild DC: Mason student, Smithsonian scientist set up camera traps to study city wildlife
College of Science senior Jamie Fetherolf is contributing to a network of wildlife data collection to clue scientists in on what’s happening when humans aren’t around, by setting up camera traps in Washington, D.C., and analyzing the data with a Smithsonian conservation scientist at the Smithsonian-Mason School of Conservation.
Mason Mentorship Fuels Student Success
In the summer of 2019, senior bioinformatics major Nikki Solaris landed a prestigious internship at the Allen Institute of Immunology in Seattle, Washington. The Institute fosters research about the human immune system and researches cures for immunological diseases.
Mason junior Rebecca Beuschel wins Goldwater Scholarship
Awarded since 1989, the prestigious one- or two-year Goldwater Scholarship, presented by the Barry Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Foundation, provides up to $7,500 per year for tuition, fees, books, and room and board.
