Exhibit cases outside of Exploratory Hall, Room 1309 include fossils and casts of fossils of all sorts. You can see a skull of a sabertoothed cat (Smilodon fatalis), the remains of trilobites, the skull of the giant Stellar’s sea cow (Hydrodamalis gigas), Virginia’s state fossil the Jefferson’s scallop (Chesapecten jeffersonius), along with many others.
This exhibit also includes information on all of the Geology Program classes in which you can learn about fossils including Historical Geology (GEOL 102), Evolution and Extinction (GEOL 134), Invertebrate Paleontology (GEOL 312), and Vertebrate Paleontology (GEOL 334).
