Let's Celebrate our Students' Success Together
Degree Celebration Volunteers
Help us support our new graduates on one of the most important days of their academic careers. Volunteer for positions during the ceremony and after party. Email cosevent@gmu.edu to sign up.
The Degree Celebration will be on Friday, May 16, 2025 at 2 p.m.. Please block the following time on your calendar. The volunteer opportunities begin as early as noon and can run as late as 4 p.m.
Volunteer orientation will be held via Zoom prior to the Degree Celebration on Thursday, May 8, 2025 at 2 p.m. Keep an eye out for an email with more details.
Volunteer Attire
Each volunteer will be asked to wear their College of Science shirt (dress or t-shirt), if you do not have one, contact cosevent@gmu.edu – please indicate your size.
Black slacks are appropriate (no shorts or jeans, please).
Most volunteers will be outdoors prior to the start of the ceremony and moving actively on the pavement and uneven surfaces, plan to wear comfortable shoes (clean tennis shoes are fine).
Be prepared for the possibility of several hours in the sun or light rain. Please bring an umbrella, poncho or raincoat, and sunscreen.
Faculty Information for Degree Celebration
The College of Science encourages all faculty to participate in the annual college degree celebration and University Commencement ceremony.
To participate as a Faculty Marshal for the College of Science Degree Celebration please follow the instructions received regarding participating in the event.
To participate in the University Commencement ceremony, please contact the university events management office.
Faculty are required to wear regalia for each event.
To support faculty participation, the University will pay for the rental of regalia through the George Mason Bookstore by any faculty member who will make the commitment to attend and act as a marshal for the ceremonies.
Finally, please reply to University Marshal Janette Muir, jmuir@gmu.edu, to acknowledge that you intend to participate in the ceremony with your doctoral candidate.
