All master’s and doctoral students who are defending a thesis or dissertation are required to submit an abstract to the Graduate Office two weeks prior to the defense. As soon as all degree requirements have been satisfied, including completion of the thesis or dissertation, the candidate may request a public defense. Approval for the defense is given by the student’s committee. Notice of a defense must be circulated to the university community two weeks before the defense date. The public defense should demonstrate the candidate’s maturity of judgment and intellectual command of the chosen branches in the field of study. Your abstract will then be sent to the College of Science and the Department and this enables us to post your abstract on the Department’s website.
