Earth science research spans a number of departments, centers, and scientific fields in the College of Science. These fields include climate change, climate modeling, environmental policy, and chemistry and biochemistry. It links efforts across the university including the Center for Ocean-Land-Atmosphere Studies and the Department of Atmospheric, Oceanic, and Earth Sciences.

Earth Sciences Spotlight: NOAA taps George Mason Researcher to Improve Seasonal Forecasts of Extreme Weather
George Mason researcher Benjamin Cash is leading a $1 million NOAA-funded project to improve seasonal forecasts of extreme precipitation and drought in Virginia. Using NOAA’s Unified Forecast System, the team will refine climate models, identify forecasting errors, and train students in advanced weather prediction techniques through 2028.
