Summer Transition Programs for First-Year Students
The College of Science offers two summer transition opportunities for incoming freshmen: Math Boot Camp and STEM Bridge Experience.
Math Boot Camp
- Strengthen foundational math skills and prepare for Mason math courses
- Work in small groups with faculty, graduate students, and Learning Assistants
- Build confidence before beginning the semester
STEM Bridge Experience
- Experience STEM courses and university life before the fall semester
- Learn strategies for academic success, labs, and time management
- Connect with faculty, current students, and other incoming STEM students
Mason Science Learning Communities
Build community and explore STEM opportunities through residential and non-residential experiences.

- Pathways in Science FYE: Non-residential first-year experience
- STEM Solutions & Sustainable Futures: Upper-level residential learning community
- C-STR: Research-focused community for undergraduate transfer students
Learning Assistant (LA) Program
Paid opportunities for College of Science undergraduates to support student learning while developing their own leadership and communication skills.
- Work alongside faculty in undergraduate STEM courses
- Support peers through active learning, tutoring, and mentoring
- Gain experience in teaching, communication, and leadership
Aspiring Scientists Summer Internship Program (ASSIP)
Gain intensive research experience through Mason's nationally recognized summer research program.
- Conduct original research with a faculty mentor
- Build research, scientific communication, and career skills
- Open to eligible high school and undergraduate students
