Exploring Pathways, Proficiencies, and Interdisciplinary Careers in STEM (EPPIC-STEM)

At the College of Science, STEM is EPPIC! This unique partnership between the College of Science and our regional K-12 school systems and non-profit organizations expands awareness of 21st Century career pathways in STEM. EPPIC-STEM brings secondary school students to Mason’s Carnegie Research 1-ranked Fairfax campus to explore today’s STEM disciplines, emerging career fields, and to explore both our academic programs and our commitment to research and innovation.
The EPPIC-STEM experience can be tailored to meet the needs of each visiting group. Visits run for 3-4 hours and generally include faculty-led lightning talks or STEM roundtable sessions and a hands-on career and problem-solving activity. Participants also enjoy a complimentary pizza lunch while hearing from current students about their experiences as Mason STEM scholars. Groups complete their visit by touring Mason’s Fairfax Campus with an embedded STEM facility walkthrough. EPPIC-STEM add-ons include a university admissions session and additional hands-on learning activities that build research and problem-solving skills, and may request a faculty-led tour of a university research facility (Mason Observatory, etc.). Visiting groups may also purchase a lunch experience in a campus dining facility at a discounted rate (add-ons are subject to availability).
K-12 schools and non-profit organizations who wish to book an EPPIC-STEM visit or who seek additional information about EPPIC-STEM, should contact Kerin Hilker-Balkissoon, Director of STEM Access, Community Outreach, and Career Pathways at khilkerb@gmu.edu.
Please note that EPPIC-STEM is not open to individual student registration. To explore Mason’s STEM programs open to K-12 students, visit the Academic Camps page.
