Students who have had a separation from the university for three years or more may request to have up to 16 previous credits of grades removed from the calculation of their cumulative grade point average. Note that the grades remain on the transcript, but they are simply not calculated into the cumulative GPA. A notation of “Academic Clemency” will remain permanently on the transcript.
A petition for clemency (form linked below) must be made within 12 months from the student’s re-enrollment to the university. To be awarded clemency, students must show successful completion of at least 6 credits of coursework in the first semester at Mason. Successful completion for granting clemency is defined as a 2.50 GPA.
Please note that clemency is not automatic or guaranteed.
