Action Required for Windows 10 Users
Subject: Action Needed: Windows 11 Upgrade & Windows 10 End-of-Life Notice
Update:
As of today, 188 devices have been either replaced or extended and should NOT get a Windows 10 End of Life message!
Request: If your PC has already received the End-of-Life message, please keep the device on/online so the extension can be pushed to it.
If you are seeing a Windows 10 End of Life pop-up message on your PC and have not yet responded to the Windows 11 Upgrade Survey, please do so as soon as possible (Questionnaire ). Be sure to include the name of your device.
Instructions:
Device Name and Windows Version
- To find your Windows Version and device name:
- Press Windows Key + R, type msinfo32, and press Enter.
- The System Information window will open (example screenshot below).
- OS Name is your Windows Version
- System Name is your device name.
- If you have a Windows 10, confirm whether you require:
- A replacement device (if Windows 11 incompatible), or
- You must back up all data from the current device before receiving the replacement.
- Extended Windows 10 support (1 year).
- Device location: Building/Room (as devices may have been moved)
- Your best contact method for coordination
- A replacement device (if Windows 11 incompatible), or
This will ensure that your device is included for Windows 10 Extended Support for one additional year at no cost to you or your department while we work on the replacement.
CoS IT, in collaboration with Central ITS, will push extended support to the identified managed devices that are receiving the pop-up message. Upon receiving the extension, the pop-up messages will stop, and your device will continue receiving the security updates.
If you have a Windows 11 or a Mac device, this issue does not apply to you, and no action is required.
Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter.

For server or cluster purchases:
- Review the college's server policy
- Talk to Office of Research Computing - Email Alastair Neil
- If ORC HPC doesn't meet your needs, get a quote for a system (do not purchase)
- Submit a co-location request for Aquia if required. Please review before system purchase.
- Comply with all policies and best practices for securing your specific type of system
- Make sure system administrators (even graduate students) are members of SALT and attend training and meetings.
