IIP Summer Project Funding Opportunity
As a part of Industrial Immersion Program (IIP), we have funding available for a few Summer 2022 research projects that are crossing disciplinary boundaries and/or strengthening connections with industry or national labs. The funding is made available by the IIP program and all Math graduate students (MS and PhD, all areas of research) are eligible. Project duration may vary from one month to the whole summer and compensated according to the length and level of the appointment.

PhD Launchpad program
The PhD Launchpad program is a 3-week opportunity to solidify your mathematical background and meet the GMU math department before starting our PhD program. Two mini-courses will help you practice the most important material for your first year in our program, while giving you a chance to get to know your cohort, returning PhD students, and faculty before the semester starts. You can expect lots of collaborative problem-solving, individual attention, and social outings in the DC area.
Dates:
July 25th-August 12th 2022, 9:30am-12:30pm and 1:30pm-4:30pm each weekday.
Field trip on August 3rd.

New PhD Mentoring Program
Each incoming PhD student is assigned a faculty mentor and a returning PhD student mentor. The student will meet with their mentors twice a semester during their first year. The goal of having a faculty mentor is to give the new student a friendly face who can help in sorting out problems, give advice, and connect the student to resources. The goal of having a student mentor is to help the new student build social connections in the program and learn about the graduate student experience.

Graduate Learning Assistant Program
First year PhD students take classes that lead to the preliminary examinations in algebra, linear analysis, numerical analysis, topology, and ordinary differential equations. To help students prepare for these exams, each of these classes has a Graduate Learning Assistant (GLA). The GLA comes to class and supports active learning activities, holds extra office hours, and runs weekly prelim study sessions. The goal of the program is to provide additional assistance in and out of the classroom, and to help students form study groups and practice for the preliminary exams.
